Diecast cars were on just about any kid's birthday wishlist or Christmas list back in the good ol' days. Even though diecast model cars have been around since the 40s, they gained prominence in the United States in the late 60s after Hot Wheels made their debut.
The 1:24 scale model became the go-to size for many collectors. They were small, but not too big. This made them easy to play with. (Plus, this also gives you room to become a collector.)
