If you've ever worked with construction equipment or manufacturing machinery before, you know the importance of hydraulic cylinders. Or, at least you should. If you don't, you're about to learn.

Not to get too in depth with the ins and outs of the process, but basically, a hydraulic cylinder plays a major part in operating various parts of a machine. Using a variety of parts, such as pistons, piston rods, cylinder barrels, and seals, a hydraulic cylinder is meant to generate a strong force in one direction. Because of that, it holds a ton of power behind it. Meaning, if you mess around with it, things generally will not end well. As you can see from the below video, here are just a few things that can go wrong if you play around with the hydraulic system and don't know what you're doing.

Yeah, that was just an all-around mess from start to finish. Luckily, it doesn't look like anyone was seriously hurt here, because as several commenters pointed out, some of those systems can pack enough pressure where just the fluid alone could literally SLICE YOU IN HALF. With that knowledge, it makes you watch that video a little bit differently, doesn't it?

You've got not one, but two guys with hammers who could've been seriously hammered themselves. The dudes working on the excavator? They're lucky they weren't absolutely crushed. If you've ever been tempted to try your hand at machine maintenance and you're not a seasoned expert, let this video serve as a lesson of why that's a terrible, horrible idea.
