If you just so happen to have hundreds of millions of dollars laying around and you're looking for a yacht, something pretty interesting hit the market a couple months ago. A 300-foot superyacht named Tranquility is now for sale, and the vessel has quite an intriguing backstory.

This luxury yacht has made the headlines on multiple occasions, and we'll dive into a couple of those stories below. The yacht's history may be off-putting for some potential buyers, while its past may be a primary selling point for other interested folks. Regardless of which side you'd fall on, let's learn more about the famous superyacht Tranquility.

Tranquility's Interesting History

Originally built in 2014 by Oceanco in the Netherlands, the yacht's original name was Equanimity, and it was awarded with "yacht of the year over 82 meters" when it first launched. Billionaire Low Taek Jho owned it, and he certainly got some use out of it for the next couple years. It was in 2018 when things got a little rocky.

Low Taek Jho, often called Jho Low, was actually a fugitive banker. The yacht was one of the assets involved in both money laundering and fraud scandals in Malaysia. In 2018, Low fled the country, and as a result, the Malaysian government seized the mammoth vessel. Eventually, it was sold off for $125 million in an effort to recoup some losses. That's only half of its estimated value. As for Low, he's actually still on the run today, but Malaysian officials have reported that they know his whereabouts and plan to have him by the end of the year.

Another story involving Tranquility popped up in 2019, though this time it wasn't nearly as scandalous. The world's youngest self-made billionaire, Kylie Jenner, most known from the popular show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, actually rented Tranquility for her 22nd birthday party. She achieved her billionaire status from Forbes after selling 51% of Kylie Cosmetics for $1.2 billion, and it's a good thing she has the money, because renting this yacht runs around $1.2 million per week.

Kylie Jenner's birthday bash included other big names like her mom Kris Jenner, Sofia Richie, Scott Disick, her boyfriend Travis Scott, and her daughter Stormi. They took the birthday yacht on a trip through the Mediterranean to Italy, and loads of pictures were uploaded to social media with the makeup mogul as they enjoyed the luxuries onboard.

Luxurious Amenities

Let's actually look at what comes included with this $200 million football-field-sized mega yacht. Overall, it's capable of cruising with 36 guests onboard, and has the capacity to sleep up to 22 guests in its VIP staterooms. Additionally, you'll find a 29-person crew member team to make your visit completely stress free.

You can see from the videos just how stunning the exterior is, but the interior consists of a beautiful combination of gold leaf, wenge, bleached oak, bamboo, and Travertino Velluto marble. All together, it creates a relaxing atmosphere that would impress anyone.

The spacious master suite on the upper deck is as luxurious as you'd expect, with enough area to fit both a lounge and a study. An exterior door also leads to a private decked area with a jacuzzi. Also on the upper deck is a swimming pool, a lounging area, and even a helipad. As for the lower deck amenities, these feature a beach club, outdoor bar, a gym with sea terrace, sauna, plunge pool, massage rooms, beauty salon, Turkish bath, and experiential showers. It's pretty much got everything you'd ever want while on vacation.

Since power is important on a boat that weighs nearly 3,000 tons, it's worth noting that this superyacht is powered by twin 4,800-horsepower MTU20V4000 diesel engines. This gives it a top speed of 18.5 knots, with a cruising speed around 15 knots. Easily enough power to get you wherever you'd like to go in a timely manner.
