It's not every day that you see a 13-year-old kid driving a semi truck, but if you want them to develop the skill, it never hurts to throw them in the saddle at a young age. This father in Wandiligong, Victoria, Australia did exactly that, and his son did surprisingly well, which you can see in the above video.
Hell, if the camera didn't show it, you would probably have no idea that the person driving is actually a kid. It appears that he caught on pretty quickly, especially since he's driving over some rough spots on the land, but still keeping a steady throttle. He chugs along in this beautiful Western Star Prime Mover like a professional. I think it's safe to assume this kid has a promising career as a truck driver in his future. Still, it's hard to believe he's still got another three years before he can legally obtain a license.
I also have to give my respect to this father. This is a great way to bond with your child, especially since he likely spends a good portion of his time out on the road. I can only imagine he was on cloud nine when his son showed interest in learning to drive a big rig, so I don't blame him for jumping at the opportunity to teach his kid how to operate it. This is a huge reason why we'll see multiple generations of truckers from the same family. It's hard not to develop a passion when you grow up watching your dad operate a stylish machine like this one.
Trucking is either in your blood or it's not. Even though this kid is young, he's definitely got an itch to hit the open road. I spot a trailer in the corner of the property, so I'm sure he got some backing lessons as well. I wish this kid good luck with his future as a badass trucker in Australia.
