There’s something about rock music and muscle cars that makes for an uniquely American combination. Maybe it’s the balls-to-the-wall mentality embodied by both things, or that feeling of intense nostalgia you get when you think of them. Either way, muscle cars and rock ‘n roll go together like baseball and freedom.
It’s only fitting, then, that Motor City Muscle, an upcoming festival combining these two staples of Americana, is happening in Detroit, Michigan, a city that has cemented its legacy as a hot bed for rock music and classic American cars.
Hey, they call Detroit The Motor City for a reason, and Kiss didn’t write “Detroit Rock City” by accident.
Motor City Muscle, dubbed “The Rock-N-Muscle Car Festival,” is coming to Detroit on the weekend of August 17 through August 19.
The festival includes 120 free performances on seven different stages, with acts including:
- Belinda Carlisle
- Ace Frehley
- Dead Kennedy’s
- Warrior Soul
- Molly Hatchet
The festival will occupy the same footprint as the Detroit Jazz Festival, stretching from Hart Plaza to Campus Martius along Woodward Avenue.
More than 250 of the finest muscle cars will be around the festival route on Woodward Avenue.
Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? And the timing of the Motor City Muscle festival isn’t just a happy coincidence either. It coincides perfectly with the Woodward Dream Cruise, a renowned classic cars event (happening on August 18 this year), which features drivers showcasing their sleek rides through Detroit’s famous Woodward Avenue.
Needless to say, if you’re a fan of classic cars and have nothing going on in mid-August, then Detroit is definitely the place to be.
