NASCAR penalizes JR Motorsports for Nashville infraction

The No. 88 team of JR Motorsports has received penalties from NASCAR due to an infraction at Nashville Superspeedway.

According to the weekly penalty report, the No. 88 that Connor Zilisch used to finish second behind teammate Justin Allgaier had two loose lug nuts in post-race inspection. This was a violation of the NASCAR Rule Book, Section 8.8.10.4a: Tires and Wheels.

As a result, the team received a $10,000 fine. Crew chief Mardy Lindley received a one-race suspension.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series is off this week while the Craftsman Truck Series and Cup Series teams head to Michigan International Speedway. Xfinity teams return to action on Saturday, June 14, but Lindley will still be with the team as it heads to Mexico City for the first time since 2008.

NASCAR noted in the penalty report that the suspension has been deferred by one week. Lindley will serve the suspension on June 21 as Xfinity Series teams compete at a familiar track, Pocono Raceway.

This infraction at Nashville Superspeedway was the only one mentioned in the weekly penalty report. This is significant for Kaulig Racing, the team that received penalties during the race weekend.

The No. 16 Cup Series team went through pre-race inspection before practice and qualifying. The team then pushed it to the track for the sessions. However, officials ordered the car back to the garage after suspecting that the team had made unapproved adjustments to the splitter.

The No. 16 went across the underbody scanning station once again, which confirmed NASCAR's suspensions. The infraction led to the loss of pit stall selection, a stop-and-go penalty for AJ Allmendinger, and the loss of qualifying position.

NASCAR also ejected car chief Jaron Antley and confiscated his hard card.

The possibility existed that Kaulig Racing would receive more penalties in the week following Nashville Superspeedway, but the penalty report did not include the Welcome-based team. It can simply move forward with the rest of the season as Allmendinger attempts to reach the playoffs.
