The NASCAR Xfinity and Cup Series teams take on Darlington Raceway for Throwback Weekend. Four drivers will compete in both races while completing the Darlington Double.
Austin Hill, Christopher Bell, Chase Elliott, and Ross Chastain will all pull double duty this weekend at the South Carolina. The three Cup Series drivers will add the Xfinity race to their schedule while Hill will make his first of five scheduled Cup starts.
Hill will drive the No. 21 Chevy for Richard Childress Racing on Saturday and the No. 33 Chevy for the same team on Sunday. Elliott will drive for Hendrick Motorsports in both races. He will control the No. 17 Chevy on Saturday and the No. 9 Chevy on Sunday.
Bell, similarly, will drive for Joe Gibbs Racing in both events. He will control the No. 19 Toyota on Saturday and the No. 20 Toyota on Sunday. Chastain will drive the No. 9 Chevy for JR Motorsports on Saturday and the No. 1 Chevy for Trackhouse Racing on Sunday.
Elliott has one previous win at Darlington Raceway. He captured the 2014 Xfinity Series race for JR Motorsports. Bell won last season's Xfinity fall race at Darlington while driving for Joe Gibbs Racing. Neither driver has celebrated a Cup win at The Lady in Black.
Hill and Chastain enter the Darlington Double in a different situation. Neither driver has won at the Xfinity or Cup level at Darlington Raceway. Hill has a pair of runner-ups to his name in Xfinity competition. Chastain finished second behind Brandon Jones in one of the 2020 Xfinity races at Darlington.
History indicates that all four of these drivers will be in contention during the Xfinity race. The last five events at The Lady in Black have featured five different winners -- Noah Gragson, Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Justin Allgaier, and Bell.
Allgaier actually has had multiple trips to victory lane at Darlington in recent years. He captured the 2021 spring race, 2022 spring race, and last season's spring race.
