Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson has added another major achievement to his NASCAR Cup Series resume. He has become the 22nd driver all-time to lead more than 10,000 laps.
Larson entered the weekend with 9,852 laps led in his Cup Series career. He swept the opening two stages while leading 154 laps. This took him to 10,006 laps led since 2013. He went on to lead 221 laps, which took him to 10,073 laps led.
Larson is the third active full-time driver with more than 10,000 laps led in the Cup Series. Denny Hamlin is the next driver ahead of him with 15,611 laps led. Kyle Busch leads active drivers with 19,440 laps led.
This was not the only milestone that Larson reached during a dominant win. He became the first driver in NASCAR Cup Series history to lead more than 200 laps at the intermediate track.
The majority of Larson's laps led have been since his move to Hendrick Motorsports in 2021. He made 223 starts in the Cup Series between 2013 and '20, primarily with Chip Ganassi Racing. He led 3,213 laps while winning six races.
Since moving to Hendrick Motorsports in 2021, Larson has led 6,860 laps while winning 26 races and the Cup Series championship. This stretch includes a record-setting 2,581 laps led in 2021, 1,127 laps led in 2023, and 1,700 laps led last season.
Larson has been out front for 817 laps this season in 12 races. This puts him on pace to lead 2,451 laps. This would move him past Kurt Busch (10,292), Ned Jarrett (10,358), and Bill Elliott (11,413) on the all-time list. He would end the season just behind Matt Kenseth (11,769).
Maintaining this pace could be difficult for Larson, who leads the series with eight stage wins. However, he still has more intermediate and short tracks remaining on the schedule.
This includes the Charlotte Motor Speedway, which hosts the longest race on the Cup Series schedule. Larson has led 399 laps at NASCAR's home track, including 327 during a dominant win in 2021.
The series also has another race at Bristol Motor Speedway this season. Larson has led at least 175 laps at this track five times. This includes 462 laps led during last season's playoff race and 411 laps led during this season's spring race.
