Hendrick Motorsports has taken one more step toward Kyle Larson's second attempt at The Double. The team has revealed the liveries he will use during the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 in May.
The No. 17 Arrow McLaren entry and the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro will feature similar liveries. Both will have white and blue schemes featuring orange accents. They will both feature the HendrickCars.com logos as the company serves as the primary sponsor for both prestigious events.
The cars feature a special logo that is unique to this effort. These logos read "H1100" and "Kyle Larson." Last season, Hendrick Motorsports dubbed Larson's attempt at The Double as the Hendrick 1100.
Prime Video will also have a prominent placement on the designs. Hendrick Motorsports announced on Tuesday that the streamer will join Larson as a sponsor as he attempts to complete all 1,100 miles of racing in one day. Prime Video will also release a feature-length documentary focusing on both of Larson's attempts at The Double.
"HendrickCars.com doesn't change its paint scheme very often, but when they do, I feel like they go all in and really make it worthwhile," Larson said in a press release.
"These cars look awesome, and I think it's exciting to have a fresh look and a fresh start to kick off this year's Hendrick 1100 effort. Everyone involved is super optimistic and motivated by a second chance to do the double. We're not focused on last year. We're focused on all the opportunity we have now."
Larson is the fifth driver in racing history to attempt The Double, which requires completing all 500 miles of the Indy 500 and all 600 miles of the Coca-Cola 600 in one day.
He won Indy 500 Rookie of the Year last season after qualifying fifth, running inside the top 10, and ultimately finishing 18th due to a penalty.
Larson did not make the second race. Rain in Indianapolis pushed the start time of the Indy 500, which made it impossible for Larson to complete that race and then make it to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the start of the Coca-Cola 600.
Justin Allgaier, Hendrick's reserve driver, started the Coca-Cola 600 in the No. 5 Chevrolet and completed 249 laps. Larson was set to switch out during the race, but he never had the opportunity. Rain and humidity in North Carolina forced NASCAR to prematurely end the race.
