One mail truck driver for the United States Postal Service had only one thing on his schedule last week and that was to deliver the mail. Sitting in Miami traffic? He had absolutely ZERO time for that. So, as the above cellphone video shows, the driver took his truck off-road and sped right around the highway traffic, kicking up a whole bunch of dust as he did it.
The video, which racked up more than four million views on the "Only in Dade" Facebook page, is currently being reviewed by the USPS. If I had to guess, I'd say the driver at least ends up getting slapped with a lengthy suspension.
"This is clearly unacceptable behavior that does not reflect the efforts of the thousands of professional, dedicated carriers in our workforce," Debra J. Fetterly, a spokesperson for USPS South Florida District, told NBC6.
As The Drive points out, it's a wonder that the Grumman LLC mail truck could even make it up to those high speeds, considering the unimpressive specs that it's working with.
Per The Drive:
Its 2.5-liter "Iron Duke" four-cylinder engine put out less than 100 horsepower back in the '80s, and its three-speed transmission delivers 0-60 mph times somewhere in the half-minute range.
These things are slow--so with that context, this bit of light off-roading must have taken a serious commitment to momentum. Its S-10 Blazer-based frame should be up to the task, even if its tin can body might rattle apart.
So, while this incident probably didn't bode well for the packages onboard, it did do a good job of, once again, proving this classic saying true: Only in Florida.
