tree stuck in grille dui Facebook: Fox 32 Chicago

We’ve seen some pretty crazy DUI cases in our day, but this doozy that happened back on January 23, 2016 really takes the cake as one of the craziest.

The case involves 54-year-old Chicago-area woman Maryann Christy, who was arrested and charged with a DUI after a police officer with the Roselle Police Department noticed something strange sticking out of the front grille of her car: a 15-foot tree.

When police received the call regarding a sedan with a freakin’ tree wedged in the grille, it must have been a head-scratching moment for sure. But, when the officer actually arrived on the scene at Central Avenue and approached Christy, his eyes must have straight-up popped out of his skull.

Here’s what the incident looked like from the squad car’s dashcam video:

“I’ve been in law enforcement for 28 years and I’ve never seen anything like it,” Roselle Deputy Chief Roman Tarchala said. Now, when someone who’s been an officer of the law says something like that, you know this was quite the sight to behold.

It turns out that Christy’s troubles didn’t end there. Once the site of the DUI crash ended up being located, she was charged with failure to report property damage and damage to public property ON TOP of the DUI. That, folks, is why you don’t drink and drive.

The only question remaining is whether or not anyone got to keep the firewood.
