Some people are willing to do whatever it takes to avoid the long arm of the law, even if that means endangering the lives of others or even themselves in the process. That was exactly the case in La Crescenta-Montrose, California (near Glendale) earlier this week, when a shoplifting suspect rammed his white Ford Mustang into police cars and made his shocking escape.

A bystander recorded the scene and uploaded it to Twitter, which shows responding officers of the Glendale Police Department trying to communicate with the suspect while he's blocked in, but the man is able to maneuver his way around the established perimeter and speed away.

Sgt. Dan Suttles, the department spokesperson, briefly recounted the incident, which occurred at a local Vons grocery store.

"He then rammed into one of our [cars]," Suttles said. "We pretty much had him stuck in, but he kept on trying, flooring it...his car was smoking and spinning."

It turns out that the suspect eventually abandoned his vehicle and took off on foot. After a lockdown and extensive search, local law enforcement eventually suspended their search, though the investigation is still ongoing.
