Fox Sports brings back Drivers Only broadcast at new track

Fox Sports may not broadcast the Xfinity Series anymore, but the Drivers Only broadcast lives on. It just takes on a new NASCAR series.

According to a Friday announcement, the broadcast featuring only drivers in the lineup will return for the Craftsman Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Friday, March 21 (8 p.m. ET). Kevin Harvick, who retired after the 2023 season, will lead the broadcast booth while doing play-by-play.

Brad Keselowski, who previously hosted the Drivers Only studio show, will move to the booth to join Harvick as an analyst. His former teammate Joey Logano will also join the booth as an analyst for the Truck Series race.

The broadcast will also feature Austin Cindric and Carson Hocevar, who will serve as pit reporters for the Truck Series race. Cindric and Hocevar both have experience contributing to the unique broadcasts. Hocevar was a pit reporter for last season's Drivers Only broadcast, while Cindric was a studio analyst.

Cindric also served as a pit reporter for the 2023 broadcast, which also featured Harvick and Logano in the booth. He dealt with a unique situation in 2023 as rainfall brought out the red flag.

Cindric had to help Fox Sports fill time, so he wandered through the garage talking to various drivers. He talked to Parker Retzlaff about his choice of footwear and Austin Hill about the best chocolate chip cookies. He also interviewed Kyle Busch about his history at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

This special broadcast has been a Fox Sports staple since its inception in 2017. The first iteration featured drivers covering the Xfinity Series race at Pocono. Harvick led the booth while working with a packed lineup of competitors. This list included Clint Bowyer, Logano, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Ryan Blaney, Erik Jones, Danica Patrick, and Denny Hamlin.

The Drivers Only broadcast moved to Talladega for the 2018 iteration, and then it headed to Charlotte for 2019. The broadcast featuring active drivers remained at Charlotte in subsequent years, with the exception of 2020 when COVID-19 disrupted the season schedule.
