How many people know the Chevrolet Camaro was the first Hot Wheels vehicle released in 1968?

As part of the original 16, the Camaro was joined by fellow GM vehicles such as the Chevy Corvette, Cadillac Eldorado, and Pontiac Firebird in the first set of Hot Wheels. But, with those latter two models being discontinued long ago, it was up to the sixth-generation Camaro to pay homage to the 50th anniversary of those classic toys.

At this year's SEMA Show, Chevy will unveil the 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition, along with nearly 20 other special-edition Chevys.

On the outside of this new Camaro, you'll see 50th Anniversary Hot Wheels fender badges, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, and a revised front grille that's complete with eye-catching Galvano Chrome inserts. In addition, this Camaro features a Crush orange paint job, which pays tribute to the orange tracks that Hot Wheels used to offer along with its toy cars.

But that's not all this special-edition Camaro has to offer.

If you open the doors, the first thing that might catch your eye could be its Jet Black leather-appointed interior or the premium carpeted floor mats with orange stitching and "ghost" stripes. Then, to you remind you once again that you're inside a Hot Wheels inspired automobile, there's a 50th Anniversary Hot Wheels badge located on the steering wheel.

What the 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition boils down to is an appearance package for the sixth-gen Camaro, which will be available on 2LT and 2SS models, beginning in 2018. The package will add an additional $4,995 to the price tag.

"In the 1960s Hot Wheels and Camaro challenged vehicle design by elevating the speed, power and performance of both die-cast and pony cars alike. For 50 years, both brands have developed high-performance cars that embody the challenger spirit." said Chris Down, senior vice president and Global Brand GM, Hot Wheels. "We're thrilled that fans can now experience the essence of Hot Wheels in this special edition Camaro."
