Martin Truex Jr. is now among the biggest names in NASCAR history.
Truex Jr. became just the 12th driver in the modern NASCAR era, since 1972, to lead for 2,000 laps in a season, according to NASCAR.com. That's some accomplishment. But he still has a long way to go before matching some of the others.
Darrell Waltrip and Cale Yarborough each led for more than 2,000 laps in a season an insane seven times! For single season dominance, how about Bobby Allison's 1972, when he led for 4,343 laps?
Who are the others? Here's the info from NASCAR's files.
Dale Jarrett: Led 2.083 laps in 1997
Jimmie Johnson: 2,238 in 2009
David Pearson: 2,658 laps in 1973
Kevin Harvick: He's done it twice, most recently in 2015 2,294 laps led
Bobby Allison: Also did it twice, and led 4,343 laps in 1972
