The folks over at Hennessey Performance Engineering are changing the game one souped-up ride at a time. The Sealy, Texas-based tuning house specializes in souping up American sports cars and supercars, adding in engine upgrade packages and the like (you can check out some of their projects at hennesseyperformance.com). If you're a diehard gearhead or just mildly curious in what the whole performance vehicle deal is all about, you'll love what HPE is up to.

In a video from a couple years back, the Hennessey Performance Engineering gurus strapped a 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat to the dyno after adding a pair of turbochargers to the 6.2 liter V-8 engine. The results? Impressive to say the least. Here's the YouTube recap:

Hennessey Performance dyno tests the HPE1000 Twin Turbo & Supercharged Hellcat Challenger. Results: 848 rear wheel HP through the factory automatic transmission. Factoring in the 20% drivetrain power loss from the engine to the rear wheels, the HPE1000 is producing approximately 1060 HP at the motor.

The official numbers, as per Hennessey, show that the Hellcat puts out 1,032 horsepower and 987 lb-ft of torque. The Hellcat can go 0-60 MPH in 2.7 seconds, and breeze through a quarter mile in 9.9 seconds at a top speed of 142 MPH.

Motor Authority had even more details.

Per Motor Authority:

Highlights of the upgrade start with the twin ball-bearing turbochargers with billet aluminum compressor wheels, an upgraded fuel system, a high-flow air-to-water intercooler system, dual turbo wastegates, stainless steel headers, a number of tweaks to the computer's software, and a high-pressure air filter element.

Remember when 1,000 horsepower in a street car seemed impossible? No more. This is some seriously awesome stuff.
