Trackhouse Racing withdraws No. 87 after Connor Zilisch injury

The No. 87 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet will not be on the starting grid on Sunday afternoon at Watkins Glen International due to an injury to Connor Zilisch.

The Trackhouse Racing driver fell from his car on Saturday evening while celebrating his sixth win of the season. Medical personnel first took him to the infield care center for evaluation before transporting him to the hospital.

Zilisch said on Saturday night that he had broken his collarbone.

"Trackhouse Racing has elected to withdraw the No. 87 Red Bull Chevrolet from (Sunday's) Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International," the team said in a Saturday night statement. "We wish Connor a speedy recovery."

Sunday's race would have marked Zilisch's fourth start in the No. 87 Red Bull Chevrolet. The Trackhouse Racing development driver made his Cup Series debut at Circuit of the Americas in March before returning to the entry at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May.

Zilisch's last start in the No. 87 was at EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta) in June. He posted a career-best 11th-place finish.

With Trackhouse Racing pulling the entry from the 40-car field, Zilisch will now have more time to rest and recover after breaking his collarbone. The Xfinity Series will not return to action until Daytona International Speedway on Aug. 22.

Trackhouse Racing and JR Motorsports will likely provide more updates about the young driver's recovery as the superspeedway race approaches.

Zilisch previously missed one race this season after suffering a different injury. He injured his lower back in a crash in the closing laps at Talladega Superspeedway, and then JR Motorsports elected to keep him out of the No. 88 the following weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.

Kyle Larson took over the entry and took the No. 88 Chevrolet to victory lane.

The timing of the Texas race benefited Zilisch. It preceded two off-weeks, so he had three full weeks to recover before making his return to the track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He has since won five races and posted 11 consecutive top-five finishes.
