Ryan Preece outduels Greg Biffle for New England 900 win

Two drivers with ties to Jack Roush took part in a heated, yet unique, battle on Friday night. Ultimately, it was Ryan Preece who defeated Greg Biffle and the rest of the drivers in the field at Stafford Speedway to claim the New England 900.

Preece, who drove the No. 60 BuildSubmarines.com Ford Crown Victoria, started 15th in the field for the 90-lap event. This didn't slow him down. He quickly raced his way inside the top 10 at a track where he had scored 37 overall wins, and he restarted on the front row on Lap 72.

Next to Preece was Biffle, who would be his biggest challenger in the closing laps. The current RFK Racing driver took the lead on this particular restart, as well as another on Lap 77. However, Biffle dove to the bottom in the modified Crown Victoria and took the lead with eight laps remaining.

The former NASCAR champion did not pull away and cruise to the win. Preece remained on Biffle's bumper before they took the white flag. He then dove to the bottom of the track in one final attempt to make the race-winning pass.

He was successful. A quick use of the nitrous-oxide booster helped him clear for the lead and score the win at his home track.

"It was all about having fun. At the end, we had to do the old NASCAR--rubbing is racing--and put on a show for everyone," Preece said after scoring the win.

The RFK Racing driver continued and explained how he had some special supporters in the crowd for his return to Connecticut.

"To be able to race with these guys at my home track--a place that has made me who I am as a race car driver -- is really special," he said.

"To have my daughter here, my family, my in-laws, my dad, and everybody here... it's my hometown crowd, so it's awesome."

Now that Preece has the New England 900 win on his resume, he will head to Dover Motor Speedway for the race weekend. He will take on the Monster Mile while continuing his pursuit of a playoff spot.
