It is no secret that NASCAR's popularity is slipping. Ask any fan what NASCAR has done wrong in recent years to cause the ratings dip and they will likely have a list a mile long of what they would change to improve the sport.

NASCAR recently announced a plan to reach more people with the playoffs right around the corner: Twitter. Starting with the first race of the playoffs at Chicagoland Speedway, NASCAR will live stream each playoff race onto the popular social media platform.

Fans visiting @NASCAR on twitter will get an online live stream similar to what they could already get at NBCSports.com and on the NBCSports App, but will also get a curated timeline of tweets to stay connected with the conversation surrounding the race.

"Through the in-car camera live stream on Twitter, our fans will have another compelling vantage point of the NASCAR Playoffs, where the energy and intensity of stage racing will be elevated to a whole new level," said Executive Vice President and Chief Global Sales and Marketing Officer of NASCAR, Steve Phelps via ESPN. "To provide this level of access on Twitter throughout the 10-week playoffs is a fantastic way to complement the viewing experience on NBC Sports and the NBC Sports app."

Another free way to watch NASCAR is sure to help its popularity. Only time will tell if it helps the sport's popularity, especially with younger fans.
