NASCAR hits three teams with L1-level penalties

Three teams will head to Darlington Raceway this weekend with fewer points due to penalties issued after the Daytona race.

According to the weekly penalty report, the No. 27 of Jordan Anderson Racing, the No. 28 of RSS Racing, and the No. 45 of Alpha Prime Racing all received L1-level penalties. The report said these teams violated Sections 14.4.A and 14.4.11 C&D in the NASCAR Rule Book, which focuses on the rear bumper cover extensions used during superspeedway races.

Jeb Burton and Jordan Anderson Racing each lost 20 points and five playoff points. The same points penalties went to Kyle Sieg and RSS Racing and Caesar Bacarella and Alpha Prime Racing.

Sieg and Burton are both full-time competitors in the Xfinity Series. Bacarella has only made three starts this season.

The crew chiefs for the respective teams each received $25,000 fines as part of the penalties.

Burton, who made the playoffs last season by winning at Talladega, left Daytona 19th in the Xfinity standings with 335 points.

He and the No. 27 team have not been in contention this season with only one top-10 finish and three DNFs. This season has been a far cry from 2023 when he only had one DNF due to a mechanical issue.

Burton falls to 20th in the Xfinity standings after the penalty. He remains in must-win mode heading into the final four races of the regular season.

Sieg, for comparison, left Daytona with the 23rd-most points in the series. He has started 20 of the 22 races this season. He failed to qualify for the season-opening race at Daytona and then he missed the road course race at Circuit of the Americas.

Sieg will now drop to 24th in the Xfinity Series standings as a result of the penalties to him and RSS Racing. He will be nine points behind Alpha Prime Racing's Ryan Ellis as he continues to seek his first top-10 finish of the season.
