Lavar Scott enjoying the privilege of pressure ahead of Xfinity debut

CONCORD, N.C. -- Lavar Scott could be anxious about his upcoming NASCAR Xfinity Series debut, especially considering that it will happen at one of the most difficult tracks in NASCAR. This isn't the case. Instead, he's enjoying the fact that he has to face this immense pressure.

"Pressure is truly a privilege," Scott, an ARCA championship contender, said in response to a question from AltDriver. "I'd much rather be in this spot and have these type of feelings than not making a start and not dealing with that, right? So I truly feel fine."

Scott will make his Xfinity Series debut next weekend with Alpha Prime Racing, the first of two scheduled starts. His first race will be at his home track, Dover Motor Speedway.

The New Jersey native has prior experience at the Monster Mile, albeit in a different car. He has made multiple ARCA starts at the track known for "its appetite for cars," and he has delivered multiple top-five finishes. He just hasn't completed any laps in the Xfinity car.

So why isn't this particular pressure getting to him?

"I think something that's helped was growing up, one of the main sports I did was wrestle," Scott added. "There's no feeling like a wrestling match where you're against your rival in high school and you've got your friends in the stands and their friends are in the stands and you're just one-on-one, right?

"There's no pressure that I've felt on that level yet. So with this stuff, I mean, we have weeks to prepare. I truly, truly have confidence in myself and my team."

The self-confidence and wrestling background help Scott embrace the pressure facing him as he prepares to join Alpha Prime Racing for the first time. That doesn't mean he is heading to the Monster Mile ill-prepared. After all, he will pull double duty that weekend while continuing his pursuit of the ARCA championship.

Scott has spent extensive time doing everything he can to ensure that he is ready to take over the Xfinity Series car and perform well. This includes conversations with fellow Rev Racing alum Rajah Caruth, who also made his Xfinity debut with Alpha Prime. Scott will also lean on veterans such as Noah Gragson, Ross Chastain, and Kyle Larson just to learn more about the Xfinity car and how it handles Dover.

"I've been putting a lot of work on the Xfinity side of things," Scott said. "On my simulator every single night, watching the race multiple times, and I'm going to watch it probably 10 more times again.

"I have a Chevrolet sim coming up for that, and I have an ARCA sim coming up as well. So I think I'm balancing the two pretty well. I know I need to put in extra work for the Xfinity side of things, because it's something I haven't done before."

Will all of these conversations and all of this prep work lead to a strong performance in Scott's debut? Honestly, he doesn't yet know the answer.

He's just impatiently waiting for his opportunity to climb behind the wheel of the Xfinity car and feel that pressure.
