Kyle Larson adds Supercars to racing bucket list

Kyle Larson has raced in some of the biggest events in the world while dipping into other series. Now, he has added something else to his racing bucket list.

Speaking with media members at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Larson said he would like to take on the world of Supercars, where such names as Scott McLaughlin and Shane van Gisbergen have won championships.

However, he also acknowledged the difficulty in making this happen with his packed schedule.

"It's really tough to run big races because I'm racing 54 weekends of the year pretty much," Larson said after Indy 500 practice. "I don't know, one that kind of stands out to me and hopefully we can kind of put it together down the road would be -- I'd like to run a Supercar, in particular in Adelaide.

"It's their finale. They have a sprint car track in the city, as well, so I could do both. I would like to do that. There's been some conversations. We'll see where it kind of goes."

The Supercars season starts after the Daytona 500 and features fewer events than the Cup Series schedule, yet it runs deeper into the calendar. The Adelaide Grand Final Round, in particular, takes place multiple weeks after the Cup Series crowns its champion at Phoenix Raceway.

The Adelaide schedule begins on Nov. 26. It continues through Nov. 30. The Supercars drivers take part in multiple practice and qualifying sessions before competing in multiple races. They enjoy extensive on-track time, something that has become a rarity in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Adelaide's place on the schedule would allow Larson to check off this bucket list item. He would just need to put together a deal with a team and a sponsor to make it happen.

Van Gisbergen, the three-time champion who transitioned to NASCAR, has voiced his support for NASCAR drivers taking on Supercars. He specifically mentioned Larson and Kyle Busch, who was reportedly close to a deal to race in last season's Adelaide finale.

"I would have loved to see how Kyle Busch went last year in the Supercar," van Gisbergen said earlier this year. "It would have been very difficult, but I'm sure if he took it seriously, he would have done really well. Hopefully, that happens this year.

"There's talks actually Kyle Larson might go and do it. Yeah, I'd love to help them if they have any questions. I'd be really interested to see how they went."
