Kyle Busch's dominant Xfinity scheme returns for Darlington

One of the winningest schemes in Xfinity Series history is set to make a return at Darlington Raceway, albeit with a different driver behind the wheel.

Xfinity Series rookie William Sawalich will celebrate Kyle Busch during Throwback Weekend as he drives a multi-colored No. 18 Toyota. This scheme will be a recreation of Busch's Nos Energy Drink Toyota, which he piloted for 17 races in 2016.

The main difference between the two schemes will be the sponsor. Nos Energy Drink is not among Sawalich's list of supporters, so the 2025 version will feature retro logos for Starkey Hearing Aids. However, the colors, the stripes, and the red box will match.

The 2016 season featured then-Joe Gibbs Racing driver Daniel Suarez winning the Xfinity Series title after a three-win season. His teammate, Erik Jones, led all full-time Xfinity drivers with four trips to victory lane.

However, it was Busch who stole the show as he ran a partial schedule for Joe Gibbs Racing, starting with qualifying as he won the pole for nine of his 17 starts. His average starting position was a staggering 2.4.

Busch led at least 100 laps in 11 of his starts, and he posted 14 top-five finishes and 14 top-10s. More importantly, he won 10 races, including a season sweep at Phoenix Raceway. Busch led 365 of a possible 400 laps at the 1-mile Arizona track.

The 2016 season marked the fourth time in Busch's career that he won at least 10 races. He also did so in 2013 (12 wins), 2010 (13 wins), and 2008 (10 wins). He started at least 26 races in the three other seasons with double-digit wins.

The scheme will now return at Darlington Raceway, a track where Busch won two Xfinity Series races. The Throwback Weekend event will mark Sawalich's first Xfinity start at The Lady in Black, and it will be his 11th career start in the second-tier series.

The Rookie of the Year contender made three starts last season while running a partial schedule. He moved up to Xfinity on a full-time basis this season and took over the No. 18. He has posted two top-10 finishes this season -- one at Atlanta Motor Speedway and another at Circuit of the Americas.
