Kaulig Racing embraces Trophy Hunting with extra Charlotte entry

Kaulig Racing has long proclaimed its love of Trophy Hunting while competing across multiple national NASCAR series. The team is further embracing this mantra by fielding an extra entry at the Charlotte Roval.

According to an announcement from Kaulig Racing, Shane van Gisbergen will add the road course race to his Cup Series schedule. He will pull double duty while driving the No. 97 Chevrolet Camaro in the Xfinity race and the No. 13 Chevrolet Camaro in the Cup race.

This event at the Charlotte Roval is an addition to SVG's busy schedule, one that already featured him competing in seven of the final 12 Cup races. He will use the event to gain more experience at a track where he has completed a few laps, and he will join defending winner AJ Allmendinger in the lineup.

Of course, the Cup race will be less of a priority heading into the weekend considering that both SVG and Allmendinger are in contention to reach the next round of the playoffs.

Allmendinger is seven points above the cutline after NASCAR disqualified Sam Mayer at Talladega for failing post-race inspection. SVG is 10 points below the Round of 8 cutline heading into this weekend's elimination race.

These two drivers, who have both helped Kaulig Racing go Trophy Hunting, enter the weekend in different situations. Allmendinger is the Xfinity Series' king of the Roval considering that he has won all four of his starts on the previous configuration of the track. He also won the Cup race last season.

SVG, for comparison, has not completed a race at the Roval. Although he has shown an ability to quickly adapt at other road courses such as Portland International Raceway and Sonoma Raceway while winning races.

"I kind of know that track," SVG said about the Roval to AltDriver. "I did a little test before Chicago last year and drove around. I did like a modified version of the infield, and then I drove around the apron on the oval, so I kind of have my bearings there.

"But it's going to be very different on a race weekend, and then the new layout as well. But my thing, I guess we got AJ Allmendinger, that's his track. So Kaulig Racing cars are good there, and AJ is good there. So having that teammate to bounce ideas off and talk about the track, I think that'll be a really strong asset to have."
