A significant move will take place with the 2025 NASCAR season as spotter Josh Williams moves to Trackhouse Racing.
Williams announced the news on Twitter shortly after Trackhouse Racing revealed that WeatherTech will sponsor both Connor Zilisch and Shane van Gisbergen next season.
"Excited that my Saturdays and Sundays will look the same most of the time next year! Looking forward to working with (Connor Zilisch), (Shane van Gisbergern), and everyone at (WeatherTech)!!!" Williams posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Williams currently serves as a spotter for three different drivers. He guides Cup Series rookie Zane Smith at Spire Motorsports, Xfinity Series veteran Brandon Jones at JR Motorsports, and Truck Series rookie Layne Riggs at Front Row Motorsports.
Before joining this trio of drivers, Williams spent nine years at Team Penske. He celebrated several wins during his time with the organization, as well as a Cup Series championship with Ryan Blaney.
The situation changed for Williams and Blaney in December 2023. The veteran spotter announced that he had called his last race for the No. 12 team and that it was time for a change.
Last weeks NASCAR banquet was my last call as spotter for the 12 team and Team Penske. After 9 years it was time to personally and professionally make a change for myself and my family. "Last week's NASCAR banquet was my last call as a spotter for the 12 team and Team Penske," Williams posted on X. After nine years, it was time to personally and professionally make a change for myself and my family.
"I'm proud knowing the last six races were it and going out with a Talladega win, a Martinsville clock, and capping it off with a Cup Series championship. We couldn't have finished it off any better. I'm really excited for what the future has in store and looking forward to sharing those plans soon! I can't wait to get to the Coliseum!"
Williams moved over to Smith, Jones, and Riggs after closing out a championship campaign. Meanwhile, Tim Fedewa moved from Stewart-Haas Racing after Kevin Harvick retired, and he became the new spotter for Blaney.
One year later, Williams will switch teams again. This time, he will work for two drivers who have already made a splash in NASCAR's national series.
SVG, who moves full-time to Cup in 2025, won his first NASCAR start last season in Chicago. He then moved full-time to Xfinity this season and made the playoffs after winning three races.
Zilisch, the Rolex 24 winner, took on the full ARCA East schedule. He won four races but fell short of the championship due to a wreck at Bristol. Zilisch also won his first Xfinity Series start at Watkins Glen after starting from the pole.
Zilisch will move full-time to the Xfinity Series in 2025. He will drive the No. 88 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports.
