Jack Wood out of Truck Series regular-season finale

A change has taken place in the Craftsman Truck Series lineup. Jack Wood will not compete in Friday's race at Richmond Raceway due to an injury.

McAnally-Hilgemann Racing announced the news ahead of the trip to the Virginia track for the regular-season finale. The team did not provide further details about the nature of the injury or its severity.

"Jack Wood will not compete in Friday's race at Richmond Raceway for precautionary measures due to an injury sustained at Watkins Glen International," the team said in a statement on Thursday.

"The No. 91 entry has been withdrawn from the event. An update on Wood's status will be announced at a later date."

Wood crashed near the end of stage 2 in last weekend's race at Watkins Glen International. He entered Turn 2 at the road course before his No. 91 Chevrolet Silverado suddenly veered back toward the wall. It made hard contact on the driver's side door before going back across the track and colliding with the wall on the passenger's side door.

This crash ended Wood's day. He left Watkins Glen International with a 33rd-place finish. He was one of 11 drivers who failed to finish the race due to either mechanical issues or crashes.

The caution set up a two-lap dash to the end of stage 2. Ben Rhodes stayed out on the track while other drivers headed down pit road for fresh tires and fuel. He won the stage and locked up 10 points. Corey Heim ultimately won the race.

Wood left Watkins Glen International in a must-win situation. With him withdrawing from Friday night's regular-season finale, he will officially miss the playoffs.

Prior to McAnally-Hilgemann Racing's announcement, the entry list for Friday's race featured 37 entries. This meant that one team would miss the race after practice and qualifying.

Now, however, the remaining drivers will all make the main event. This includes former McAnally-Hilgemann Racing driver Christian Eckes, who makes his first Truck Series start since moving over to the Xfinity Series.
