GMS Race Cars acquires SRX assets from Ray Evernham

GMS Race Cars, a chassis manufacturer and engineering company, has made a significant move. The company has acquired SRX (Superstar Racing Experience) assets from Ray Evernham Enterprises.

According to a press release from GMS Race Cars, the main assets included in this deal are the 16 fully assembled race cars used in the SRX series events. GMS Race Cars also acquired pit equipment, race-day infrastructure, and an assortment of spare parts.

This acquisition does not include any of the SRX branding, trademarks, or future broadcast rights.

"These race cars were built to an incredibly high standard by Ray, with durability, drivability, and performance in mind," said GMS Race Cars President Joey Cohen in a press release.

"Our team sees a huge opportunity to take these vehicles into a new era - repurposing them for premium track-day experiences, turnkey customer programs, and specialty racing events across the country. The possibilities are endless."

The Superstar Racing Experience surfaced in 2021. Evernham and Tony Stewart created the series together and began hosting summer races at short tracks across the country. CBS Sports served as the broadcast partner first before ESPN took over in 2023.

The series executives put a select group of full-time drivers in these identical, purpose-built race cars. They also fielded entries for select guest drivers.

The list of participants included such names as Stewart, Ron Capps, Michael Waltrip, Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, Kenny Waltrip, Marco Andretti, Ryan Newman, Hailie Deegan, Paul Tracy, Kyle Busch, Tony Kanaan, Clint Bowyer, Kevin Harvick, Bobby Labonte, Helio Castroneves, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Greg Biffle, Dave Blaney, Ryan Blaney, and Matt Kenseth among others.

Stewart won the inaugural championship in 2021. Andretti followed as champion in 2022. Newman won the final championship in 2023 before SRX went on indefinite hiatus.

"It's incredibly gratifying to see these cars live on in a new format," Evernham said. "We built them to be durable, racy, and fun - whether in the hands of champions or first-timers.

"GMS Race Cars is the perfect group to carry that torch forward and put smiles on a whole new generation of drivers."
