Dominant Texas run ends in frustration for Justin Allgaier

Justin Allgaier will go another year without scoring his first win at Texas Motor Speedway.

The JR Motorsports driver controlled the dominant car at the 1.5-mile track on Saturday as he led 99 of the first 156 laps. However, he failed to complete the race due to an unexpected incident in the final stage. Allgaier crashed and finished 35th.

The incident occurred after Allgaier made his green flag pit stop. He went to navigate around Kris Wright, who was very far off the pace and taking up multiple lanes. He hit Wright's No. 5 from behind and spun them both.

Wright slid through the infield grass while Allgaier went up into the outside wall. The No. 7 made hard contact, slid back across the track, and then got stuck in the grass with a broken front end.

"(Wright) went up and then turned down and then went back up," Allgaier told CW Sports pit reporter Kim Coon. "I tried to go to the bottom, and he lifted and went back down. Just a frustrating day."

This was the second incident in the third stage featuring Wright and Allgaier. The Xfinity points leader and Kyle Larson both nearly collided with the much slower Wright earlier in the run.

Allgaier has made 28 career starts at Texas Motor Speedway. He has fallen short of victory lane every single time despite having fast cars capable of controlling the race.

For example, he started on the pole in 2023 and led 133 laps but finished fifth. Last season, he led 117 laps after starting sixth but finished third while Sam Mayer won. Allgaier also led 98 laps in 2020 before finishing third.

With the race over, the reigning Xfinity Series champion will now have two weeks away from the race car. The series will remain idle while the Craftsman Truck Series and Cup Series teams head to Kansas Speedway and then North Wilkesboro Speedway.

The next Xfinity Series race will be at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 24.
