Cup Series at Texas: Starting lineup, weather, start time


NASCAR Cup Series cars are back on track at Texas Motor Speedway for a Sunday afternoon race.

This is the lone trip to the 1.5-mile track this season, and it marks the 45th time the series has competed in a points race there since Jeff Burton won the inaugural event in 1997. The Cup Series also took the All-Star Race to Texas in 2021 and '22.

Weather: The WeatherUnderground forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, a high of 74 degrees, and no chance of rain at the start of the Cup Series race.

Green flag time: Actor Shea Whigham will give the command to fire engines at 3:32 p.m. ET. The starter will wave the green flag at 3:43 p.m. ET.

Starting lineup: Carson Hocevar won the pole for the first time in his Cup Series career. William Byron qualified second.

Pre-race: The garage opens at 12:30 p.m. ET. Driver introductions will take place at 2:55 p.m. ET. Pre-race coverage begins with "NASCAR RaceDay" on FS1 at 2 p.m. ET. Race coverage continues on FS1 at 3:30 p.m. ET.

The invocation will be at 3:24 p.m. ET. The national anthem will be performed at 3:25 p.m. ET.

Stages: The race will consist of three stages. The first stage ends at Lap 80. The second stage ends at Lap 165. The scheduled end of the race is Lap 267.

Playoff picture: The Cup Series drivers have completed 10 points-paying races, but only six drivers have locked up spots in the playoffs.

Christopher Bell leads the series with three wins. Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin each have two wins. Josh Berry, William Byron, and Austin Cindric have all won once.

AJ Allmendinger (216 points) and Kyle Busch (210 points) are the two drivers battling at the playoff cutline. Both are ahead of Berry in points, but neither has the all-important win.

Previous winners: Eight drivers in the Cup Series lineup have won at Texas Motor Speedway. Busch leads the group with four trips to victory lane. Hamlin has three wins. Joey Logano, Austin Dillon, Larson, Tyler Reddick, Byron, and Chase Elliott each have one win at the 1.5-mile track.
