Cup, Xfinity drivers set for Watkins Glen tire test

A select group of NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series drivers will head to Watkins Glen International this week for some extra laps in advance of the playoffs.

Note: The original list from NASCAR featured Joey Logano. Austin Cindric replaced his Team Penske teammate during the one-day session.

Goodyear will host a tire test on Wednesday, June 26. The single-day session will feature six drivers representing the three different manufacturers. The list includes one driver, Joey Logano, who swept the Watkins Glen weekend back in 2015.

Logano will drive the Cup car for Ford during Wednesday's test. Tyler Reddick will drive the Cup car for Toyota. Daniel Suarez will drive the Cup car for Chevrolet. Jesse Love (Chevrolet), Ryan Sieg (Ford), and John Hunter Nemechek (Toyota) will drive the Xfinity cars during the Watkins Glen test.

The 2024 season marks the first time that The Glen will not host a race in either July or August. NASCAR moved the road course into the playoffs for this season as part of a revamped Round of 16. The second Atlanta race will open the playoffs and then Watkins Glen will be the second race. Bristol will continue to be the elimination race for the opening round.

Logano is the only driver in this test group with a national series win at Watkins Glen. He won the 2015 Cup race. He also has three Xfinity wins at the road course (2015, 2016, and 2018).

Love, a rookie in Xfinity, won last season's ARCA Menards Series race at the track.

Reddick and Suarez have multiple starts at the road course in NASCAR's national series. Suarez has three top-five finishes in six Cup starts while Reddick has three top-10 finishes in three Cup starts.

Sieg's best finish at Watkins Glen in nine Xfinity starts is 13th during the 2021 season. Nemechek only has two Xfinity starts at the New York road course. His best finish is sixth in last season's race. He has no Cup starts at The Glen.
