The final hurdle has been cleared, and now, Cadillac is officially set to make its move to the Formula 1 grid starting in 2026.
According to a press release, Cadillac has received final approval to join the immensely popular racing series. Cadillac Formula 1 Team will make its debut in 2026 with drivers yet to be named. The team will have backing from TWG Motorsports and General Motors.
The American team will join existing teams Haas, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Kick Sauber, Alpine, McLaren, Mercedes, Racing Bulls, Red Bull Racing, and Williams.
As a quick refresher, TWG Motorsports is the motorsports arm of TWG Global. It has ownership in Spire Motorsports, Wayne Taylor Racing, and Andretti Global. This provides TWG Motorsports with a presence in NASCAR, Formula E, IndyCar, and IMSA. The company will add F1 to its lineup in 2026.

"As we said in November, the commitment by General Motors to bring a Cadillac team to Formula 1 was an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport," said Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, in a press release.
"I want to thank GM and TWG Motorsports for their constructive engagement over many months and look forward to welcoming the team on the grid from 2026 for what will be another exciting year for Formula 1."
Said Team Principal Graeme Lowdon, "I couldn't be more proud of the effort put in by the entire Cadillac Formula 1 Team. This announcement is the next step in getting on the grid and continues our efforts towards building a full-works team.
"Through the long and thorough application process, we have never lost pace in our planning or our belief in the mission. We can't wait to go racing and give fans a new team to cheer for."
Cadillac's official entry into F1 is well over one year away, but the team has put in extensive work to gain approval. Naming Lowdon Team Principal was one step. Another was bringing in industry veteran Russ O'Blenes as CEO of TWG GM Performance Power Units LLC.
This latter move makes it possible for Cadillac Formula 1 Team to become a full works operation, meaning that it can build Formula 1 chassis and power units.
