NASCAR gets a shock when a long-time sponsor says it's leaving the sport

Since 2015 Aspen Dental has been a sponsor for Danica Patrick and Stewart-Haas Racing.

Not only will Patrick be walking away from NASCAR, it appears Aspen Dental will also. Although Aspen had deals in place with SHR and NASCAR, the change in driver allowed them a way out of their obligation with SHR. As far as their agreement with NASCAR goes, that is unknown.

Adam Stern of the Sports Business Journal reported the news in the tweet, which is below.

It's been rumored since back in August that Aspen was looking to move on from SHR if Patrick was no longer driving for the team.

In a release from Aspen Dental management Inc. director of brand PR, Kathy Dwyer announced that the organization has made strategic changes to their go-to-market approach so that we can reach consumers in new and different ways.

Patrick is still holding onto hope she'll be able to drive both the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500 next year, but as of right now it's looking pretty grim.
