Denny Hamlin won the XFINITY Series race at Michigan International Speedway by the closest margin in track history, but his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota was penalized for an illegal splitter structure on Wednesday.

The splitter on his car was not flat, so Hamlin's win will now be an encumbered victory.
Hamlin gets to keep the win, but it doesn't count toward the team's ability to win the owner title in the XFINITY Series.
Joe Gibbs Racing crew chief Chris Gabehart has been suspended for two races and fined $25,000 for the illegal splitter structure, and the team was docked 25 points.
