Alex Bowman embracing 'B' conspiracy at Homestead

Homestead-Miami Speedway pole-winner Alex Bowman is embracing a "conspiracy" that has surfaced early in the 2025 Cup Series season. He is aiming to become the next "B" driver to win a race.

What is this conspiracy? Basically, only drivers whose last name starts with a B have won Cup races this season. William Byron won the Daytona 500 and then Christopher Bell won three consecutive races. Josh Berry won last weekend's race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

"At least we're on the list," Bowman said Saturday after winning the pole. "There's some other guys that start with B's too, but at least we're the ones starting up front. And yeah, I think we'll have a shot at it.

"If there's a conspiracy that's getting me a win, I'll take it, by the way. I'll take them, as you guys know, anyway I can get them."

Bowman is one of multiple drivers in the Cup Series whose surname starts with a B. The others include Kyle Busch, Ryan Blaney, Byron, Bell, Berry, Chase Briscoe, and Chris Buescher. Carson Hocevar also recently declared that he has a silent B at the start of his name, making it "BHocevar."

"That's just a funny stat, a funny coincidence," Berry said on Saturday. "I guess if your last name starts with a B, you're feeling pretty good this weekend at least."

Of course, this isn't the only "conspiracy" or trend surrounding Bowman and his ability to win at the top level of NASCAR. He has been the subject of other discussions this season based on the timing of his wins during the 2021 Cup Series season.

Two of Bowman's wins during the 2021 season came at the end of three-race winning streaks by teammate Kyle Larson.

"Yeah, there's something every week that means we're winning," Bowman said. "Last week, anytime somebody for the last couple years had won three-in-a-row, we were the guy that won after that and we didn't do that last week (at Las Vegas).

"Although we probably had a car capable of doing it if our day would have just gone okay."

Bowman will have an opportunity to extend this streak and get his first win of the season on Sunday afternoon (3 p.m. ET on FS1). He will lead the Cup Series field to green at a track where he has three top-10 finishes in nine starts, and he will try to score his third win on a 1.5-mile track.
