The Superprestigio Dirt Track races are in their fifth year, and were missing some of the big names of past years. Last year's winner, Marc Marquez, was absent at this year's event, giving MotoGP's rookie sensation Johan Zarco a turn in the spotlight. Xavier Simeon, who will make his MotoGP debut in 2018, was the only other rider from the premier road racing series to take part in the race.

According to Motorsport.com, the MotoGP riders did not have the same luck that Marquez did last year, and failed to make the final race. In the Superprestigio class final, both riders crashed out, leaving MotoAmerica champion Toni Elias to advance to the 'Superfinal.'

In the superfinal, American flat track rider JD Beach took the top spot to win the even while Elias finished fourth to represent the best of the road racers.
