Motorcycle racer Beau Layne is lucky he didn't end up in critical condition following a terrifying crash at the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Washington back in August 2019. Riding a Top Fuel Harley-Davidson racing motorcycle, Layne attempted to pass a competitor at 215.86 MPH. That's when complete disaster struck.

Layne's handlebars were at a slight angle while up in the air, so when the front wheel touched the ground it caused him to careen across the drag strip and into the opposite wall. The young rider fell off the motorcycle as a result of the impact and had to be immediately helped by emergency crews.

After complaining about pain in his arm, Layne, who was in second in the NHRA Top Fuel Harley standings at the time, was sent to a nearby medical center and underwent surgery soon after. In a video uploaded to Facebook, NHRA racer Ron Capps briefly delved into the severity of his competitor's injuries, and wow, Layne definitely scraped himself up pretty damn good.
"Beau took a wild ride, right into the wall, from one lane into the other, and he's got most of the skin and the tendons scraped off down to the bone," Capps said.
"So, went into surgery today, talked to him and his wife, and the dude's an animal. He's talking about even being in Indy, which...I don't know how he's gonna do that."
Indy is the site of the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, which goes down at the end of August. Meaning, of course, that Layne didn't have much time to recover from his clearly serious injury. Needless to say, the dude is tough as nails.
