As soon as the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk hit the scene, it was touted as being WAY different than your average SUV. Jeep claimed that the Trackhawk was capable of getting up to 180 MPH, which you probably wouldn't believe just by looking at the thing. Let's just say that it doesn't exactly have the aesthetic of a vehicle that can do some serious damage on the track. But, with a 707 horsepower supercharged Hellcat 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine as well as all-wheel drive and automatic transmission, the Trackhawk is definitely packing some ridiculous power.

To put Jeep's claim to the test, John Hennessey of the Texas-based tuning house Hennessey Performance got behind the wheel of a Jeep Trackhawk, driving it as fast as he could down a straight track.

Though Hennessey fell just short of Jeep's top-speed promise of 180 MPH, he still managed to get the Trackhawk up to 175 MPH. That's right. A full-sized SUV was able to hit 175 mph on the track. Which, to quote himself Hennessey, makes it "the real deal."

Since everything's bigger, both in Texas and at Hennessey, the company founder also confirmed at the time that his team would be working on its own Hennessey Trackhawk with 1,012 horsepower and 969 lb-ft of torque. You know, in case the stock Hellcat V8 engine wasn't extreme enough for some people.

Well, Hennessey's team eventually ended up completing the souped-up version of the Trackhawk that the company founder promised, and, not to take anything away from the impressive work that Jeep did, but the Hennessey Jeep Trackhawk HPE1000 is on another level. Don't just take our word for it though. Check out this beast in action.
