Porsche launching 'most powerful' Panamera model yet

Porsche has set out to redefine the luxury sedan segment with the release of two new Panamera models, including one the automaker says is the most powerful yet.

The first model is the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. The other is the Panamera GTS (Gran Turismo Sport). Both models feature a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine and an eight-speed Porsche dual-clutch transmission. However, the two models have different horsepower numbers.

The twin-turbo V8 in the GTS produces 493 horsepower, which is 20 more horsepower than the previous twin-turbo V8. The Turbo S E-Hybrid's gas engine produces 591 hp. The electric motor produces 187 horsepower, giving the Turbo S E-Hybrid 771 total horsepower. This is 81 more horsepower than the model's predecessor.

The Turbo S E-Hybrid is the most powerful Panamera with a zero to 60 mph time of 2.8 seconds and a top track speed of 202 mph. The Panamera GTS has a top speed of 188 mph and a zero to 60 mph time of 3.6 seconds.

The Turbo S E-Hybrid is also a record-setting machine. Porsche test driver Lars Kern took over the car on July 12 and completed a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife (20.832 kilometers) in 7:24.17 minutes.

This time set the record for the fastest executive-class sedan with a combustion and hybrid engine. This beat the previous record in this car class by 3.62 seconds.

Porsche says the Panamera GTS is a "dynamic sports sedan" that focuses on that emotional driving experience. The highlight of this vehicle is the standard sport exhaust system designed to showcase the twin-turbo V8's sound.

The GTS also includes an adjustable air suspension, a 10-millimeter-lower ride height compared to the standard Panamera, and reinforced anti-roll bars. According to Porsche, the electronically controlled PTV Plus limited-slip differential ensures that the torque is "distributed optimally" between the wheels.

Porsche has added some distinctive elements to both models. The GTS, for example, has black GTS logos on the sides and rear of the car, as well as a unique front fascia. The model also includes HD Matrix Design LED headlights in black, special tail lights, and red brake calipers.

The Turbo S E-Hybrid has a distinctive rear bumper and front fascia in the exterior color, as well as dark bronze tailpipes. The model includes Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) with yellow brake calipers. Acid Green is an optional caliper color.

The Turbo S E-Hybrid also includes an optional Aerokit featuring airblades, side skirts, and a rear diffuser made of carbon fiber. This Aerokit is supposed to optimize the aerodynamic balance.

The Turbo S E-Hybrid's Aerokit also has a front spoiler lip that reduces lift on the front axle. When paired with the Gurney flap on the adaptive 4-way rear spoiler, this kit improves downforce by 132 lbs at a speed of 124 mph.

Consumers can begin placing orders for both new models, which are expected to reach U.S. Porsche Centers in late Q1 2025. The GTS starts at $154,200. The Turbo S E-Hybrid starts at $226,500. These prices do not include tax, title, registration, dealer charges, or a $1,995 delivery, processing, and handling fee.
