NASCAR's Saturday practice, qualifying schedule in Chicago

Two of the national NASCAR series will be in action Saturday in Chicago as Xfinity and Cup teams take part in multiple on-track sessions.

Saturday will feature a packed schedule, which starts with Xfinity practice and qualifying. Cup teams will then practice and qualify for Sunday's street race. The Saturday schedule will conclude with the second-ever Xfinity race on the streets of the Windy City.

Saturday, July 6, schedule (Eastern Time)

  • 7:30 a.m. -- Xfinity Series garage hours
  • 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. -- Cup Series garage hours
  • 10 - 10:50 a.m. -- Xfinity Series practice (USA Network, streaming on NBC Sports app)
  • 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. -- Xfinity Series qualifying (USA Network, streaming on NBC Sports app)
  • 12:30 - 1:20 p.m. -- Cup Series practice (USA Network, streaming on NBC Sports app, radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio)

  • 3:30 p.m. -- Xfinity Series race (50 laps, 110 miles. NBC, streaming on NBC Sports app, Radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio)

The Saturday schedule should unfold under favorable weather. The forecast from WeatherUnderground calls for partly cloudy skies with a high of 76 degrees and an 8% chance of rain.

The entry lists for the two races will be packed. The Xfinity list has 43 drivers trying to qualify for 38 spots in the race. This includes four-time NASCAR Whelen Euro Series champion Alon Day, who will suit up for Alpha Prime Racing.

Truck Series driver Ty Dillon will also attempt to qualify for Saturday's Xfinity Series race as he fills his off-week.

The Cup entry list has 40 cars, so none will go home after Saturday afternoon's qualifying session. Kaulig Racing, MBM Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing, and RFK Racing will field the four open entries.

Nine drivers are pulling double duty this weekend, something that was not possible last season due to NASCAR's rules. However, an update issued earlier this season made it possible for drivers to compete in both the Xfinity and Cup races.

The following drivers will compete in both races: Joey Logano, Josh Bilicki, Kyle Larson, AJ Allmendinger, Shane van Gisbergen, Ty Gibbs, John Hunter Nemechek, Daniel Suarez, and Austin Hill.
