Darlington Raceway is one of the most historic tracks in NASCAR, and drivers and owners could sense the excitement from fans over the weekend for the BoJangles' Southern 500.

Long said racers and fans can focus on being better in the future, and it will help the sport if attendance and excitement remains high at the races.

It probably helps that the regular season is coming to a close, and there is some tension in regards to who will make the playoffs and who will be left out.

Some fans probably want to see Dale Earnhardt Jr. race for the last time as his career comes to a close.

Either way, it's a positive sign for the sport that attendance and fan excitement is still high at the racetracks at least.
