NASCAR makes a change that could have a huge impact on this weekend's races at Dover

NASCAR drivers will be using a new kind of Goodyear tire this weekend at Dover in both the Cup and Xfinity Series races.

The left-side tires will feature a compound change that should give the cars more grip. The right-side tires have been changed by Goodyear to hopefully increase durability at Dover International Speedway.

On the right side, the tread compound was designed to help the speeds and loads of the tires due to the banking at Dover.

According to NBC Sports, the tread compound on the right-side tires is "designed to rubber-in the concrete track surface to the appropriate level."

Cup teams will have four sets of tires for practice, one set for qualifying and eight for the race. The Xfinity teams will have six sets.

Here is the additional tire info courtesy of NBC Sports:

Tire Codes: Left-side -- D-4728; Right-side -- D-4742

The tires on both sides will be different than the last Cup Series race at Dover in June, which was won by Jimmie Johnson. We'll see if it makes a big difference with the speed and durability of the cars on Sunday.
