Kaulig Racing lands new partner for Watkins Glen Cup race

Kaulig Racing has secured a new Cup Series primary partner, one that will help the team field a third entry at Watkins Glen International.

Go Bowling, the presenting partner of the September playoff race at the New York road course, will take over the No. 13 Chevrolet Camaro. AJ Allmendinger will drive the entry while pursuing his second career Cup win at the track.

Shane van Gisbergen will drive the No. 16 Chevrolet during the Cup race as both he and Allmendinger pull double duty during the race weekend.

"It's always special for me going back to Watkins Glen," Allmendinger said in a press release. "I'm excited to get there and have Go Bowling on the Cup car.

"This is a fun partnership; I had a blast in the PBA NASCAR Invitational at Phoenix in the spring. I actually used to be on a bowling league growing up, so it's cool to have bowling cross paths with my racing career now."

Allmendinger has success at Watkins Glen in Cup. This 2.450-mile road course was the site of his first career Cup win back in 2014 when he drove for JTG Daugherty Racing.

Allmendinger has five top-five finishes and eight top-10s at Watkins Glen in 12 career starts. He finished second and fourth in the two previous Next Gen races at the road course.

The California native has not yet won at Watkins Glen in the Xfinity Series, where he currently competes full-time. He has come close. Three of his four Xfinity starts at The Glen have resulted in runner-up finishes.

This stretch includes the 2022 season when Allmendinger finished second behind Kyle Larson in the Xfinity race and then second behind Larson in the Cup race the following day.

Allmendinger will have another opportunity to pursue the win at Watkins Glen on Sept. 14 (3 p.m. ET). This race, the final Xfinity event on an NBC Sports platform, is one of the last opportunities for Xfinity drivers to win their way into the playoffs.

One day later, Allmendinger will suit up for his second day of racing at The Glen and he will showcase a special Go Bowling scheme while trying to win his fourth career Cup Series race.
