Haas F1 team lands Hungarian Grand Prix winner

MoneyGram Haas F1 Team has added a grand prix-winning driver to its lineup for 2025 and beyond as Esteban Ocon has signed a multi-year deal.

Ocon will finish out the 2024 season with BWT Alpine F1 Team and then he will join the North Carolina-based organization. He will reunite with his first-ever F1 race engineer, Ayao Komatsu, who now serves as Team Principal for MoneyGram Haas F1 Team. Ocon will become teammates with Oliver Bearman.

"It was important to me that we have a driver with a known pedigree in Formula 1, and as a grand prix winner, Esteban undoubtedly fits that brief," said team owner Gene Haas in a statement.

"Esteban's proved himself in the teams he's raced for as someone who's continually in the mix and scoring points -- it's that continuity we're keen to capitalize on as we look for increased performance gains on track. We have a blend of youth and experience in our future driver line-up and I'm excited to see the results."

Ocon made his Formula 1 debut back in 2016 with nine starts. He went full-time in 2017 and has remained on the grid ever since. Ocon has accumulated three podium finishes, which included his first career win in the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix.

"I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter in my Formula 1 career and join MoneyGram Haas F1 Team from the start of the 2025 season," Ocon said in a statement.

"I'll be joining a very ambitious racing team, whose spirit, work ethic, and undeniable upward trajectory has really impressed me. I'd like to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for their trust and support, and for our honest and fruitful discussions these last few months."

The addition of Ocon follows another announcement made. MoneyGram Haas F1 Team revealed last week that Kevin Magnussen will depart the team after the end of the 2024 season. This will close out a seven-year partnership that included career-best finishes of fifth at Bahrain International Circuit and Red Bull Ring.
