The new Formula 1 logo hasn't exactly been greeted very kindly from fans or drivers, but the F1 executives are standing by the new modernized logo.

Oddly enough, Formula 1 commercial chief Sean Bratches said it's actually a good thing that so many people are criticizing the logo.

"People have an opinion," Bratches said via Motorsport. "And it is good people have an opinion because they care. And, as the caretakers of this sport and brand, we feel very strongly about it. And ultimately we will demonstrate to the marketplace that this brand will survive and thrive.

"We understand in any logo change, whether it is a small modification or wholesale, people are going to have varied opinion. And that is good for the sport. Everybody has got an opinion in F1. I didn't think we would sneak away unscathed on that one."

Lewis Hamilton said he prefers the older logo, which has been used for the last 23 years. Here's a look at both the new and old logos.

Branches said it was a difficult change to make since the old logo was so popular and had been around so long, but they decision makers gave it a lot of thought and decided to make the change.

"It seemed from my perspective and from the moment Chase [Carey] called me, it was one of the things I really wanted to look at," he said. "From my eye, it [the old logo] seemed to be dated, it seemed to not reflect where the sport could go."

Fans and drivers will probably get used to the logo once it's around for a year or two, and the backlash will be forgotten. The new logo definitely looks more modern, and it's understandable why Branches wanted to make the change.
