Five NASCAR drivers will lose practice time and forced into penalty no one likes

Two's company, three's a crowd. And five? That would be NASCAR's version of "time out" at the Dover International Speedway.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will be one of those drivers.

"That's right, I will experience it," Earnhardt, Jr. told Motorsport.com. "We had some trouble getting through tech. We'll just have to do our time, and hopefully we'll have a pretty good practice in the morning."

NASCAR is taking a hard line with teams that fail inspection. Just ask Joey Logano. NASCAR slapped Logano with a 55-minute penalty, but almost like adding insult to injury, made Logano serve the time last week in New Hampshire, sitting in his car on pit road, helmet on, engine off.

"I just think it makes our sport look dumb. I do. Like I said, it's kind of a joke. I don't get it, personally. I think we can accomplish the same thing in a more professional manner," Logano said in remarks reported by NBC Sports at the time.

Earnhardt, Jr. was even more disgusted when it happened.

Now it's Earnhardt's turn. He'll serve a 15-minute penalty after the #88 Hendrick Motorsports team failed inspection twice at New Hampshire.

"We had a really great car when we unloaded so that gives me a little comfort because we did unload pretty fast. I like the car this morning. Hopefully, it will be pretty decent tomorrow (Saturday) in the first practice. If we were struggling or our car was way off, I'd be nervous -- real nervous about it."

He'll have plenty of company in time out. Earnhardt, Jr. will be joined by Kasey Kahne, Reed Sorenson, Matt Kenseth and Brett Moffitt.
