One of the world's most iconic races in danger of not being on U.S. TV

For all the gains FIA has made in attracting TV audiences, they're staring at a major setback in the next 5 months.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans, probably one of the most well-known European racing events, does not have a U.S. broadcaster willing to air the June 16-17 event. Fox Sports, which had been the home of the race going back to the 90's, announced just prior to last year's race that they were not renewing the contract for coverage.

Le Mans is one of six World Endurance Championship races looking for a U.S. TV home for 2018.  In addition to ending the relationship with Le Mans, Fox Sports also severed ties with FIA WEC, reports racer.com.

There is speculation that cable channel Velocity is a possible U.S. broadcaster for Le Mans and other WEC races.
