The BMW Z4 may share its platform with the upcoming Toyota Supra, but this Beemer has a look that's all its own.

While spy shots of the Supra revealed it has a shapely and rounded design, the Z4 features a more traditional appearance that fits perfectly with BMW's current design language. For starters, new spy photos--published by Motor Trend--show the Z4's headlights will feature a single projector cluster, which is similar to lights of the Z4 Concept that was revealed during the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance a month ago.

Those new spy photos also exposed that the new BMW Z4 wears a widened version of the brand's famous kidney grilles, as well as trapezoidal dual exhaust tips and an integrated lip spoiler positioned on the trunklid.

As for its powertrain, Auto Guide reports the entry-level model will feature a 2.0-liter turbo-four, while the top-level trim gets a more powerful turbocharged six-cylinder. In addition, the Z4's rear-wheel drive platform, which BMW designed along with Toyota, will be capable of supporting hybrid power trains, according to a report from Car Scoops.

Another interesting tidbit regarding the new BMW Z4 is the Bimmer will be offered with a manual transmission. The same cannot be said for the revived Toyota Supra, according to a report from Car and Driver. One other notable difference between these sport cars is the Supra will be a hard-top coupe and the Z4 a soft-top convertible.

BMW enthusiasts can expect the Z4 to make its official debut at some point in 2018.
