Very scary moments in a race down under.
Ash Walsh was competing in the 2018 Liqui-Molly Bathurst 12-hour endurance race in New South Wales, Australia when he kissed the barrier in the final laps. That was survivable, but as you can see by the video posted on YouTube, several drivers narrowly missed crashing into Walsh. John Martin wasn't so fortunate. He slams into Walsh, sending both cars spinning.
Both drivers were injured, with Ash getting the worst of it, according to motorsport365. He was taken to a hospital in Sydney with possible broken ribs and a punctured lung. His teammates made a surprise visit to present him with the winner's trophy.
Turns out, race officials declared a red flag and called the race. Walsh was leading in the last completed lap, giving him the victory. He posted a picture from the hospital with a message for his fans.
"Thanks to everyone for the messages of support, I'm doing ok in hospital getting some checkups," read a post on Walsh's Instagram. I was surprised to learn we still won our class."
