For a long time, high rpm redlines were reserved mainly for imports with smaller engines, like the Honda S2000 with a 9,000 rpm redline. Big V8 muscle made all its power down low because that was the manly thing to do. Times have changed and now we have V8s that do what they want, and what they want is to make power everywhere.
The updated Ford Mustang GT is no exception, and the team at Ford has now allowed its revised Coyote 5.0 to rev freely to 7,500 rpm according to the spy photo on Mustang6g.com. Notice in the photo, the tach goes to 8k rpm with redline at 7,500.

This along with a new exhaust, GT350 style intake manifold and direct injection, the GT is likely to, at the very least, match the 455 horsepower rating from the current Camaro SS. Handling will also be improved with new shocks, sway bars and optional adaptive suspension.
In the end, these pony wars always benefit us. These cars have been duking it out for so long, it's a wonder one of them doesn't have a rocket booster strapped to the back end.
