Xfinity starting lineup at Indianapolis: Cole Custer wins pole

Cole Custer will lead the field to the green flag for Saturday's Xfinity Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Custer, who won last weekend's race at Pocono, won the pole with a lap of 167.582 mph. This is his fifth pole win of the season and the 23rd of his career.

Riley Herbst, Custer's teammate, qualified second with a lap of 166.942 mph. Aric Almirola qualified third with a lap of 166.765 mph as he makes his return to Xfinity Series action.

Sam Mayer (166.725 mph), Anthony Alfredo (166.593 mph), Brandon Jones (166.439 mph), Carson Kvapil (166.352 mph), AJ Allmendinger (166.343 mph), Justin Allgaier (166.316 mph), and Josh Berry (166.095 mph) rounded out the top 10.

Sheldon Creed completed qualifying with a lap of 165.844 mph. This put him in 12th on the leaderboard. However, he will have to start from the rear of the field due to an engine change that took place after practice on Friday.

Parker Kligerman was tracking toward the fastest lap late in Saturday's qualifying session. However, he made hard contact with the outside SAFER barrier and had to slowly head back to pit road.

Kligerman did not post a time and will have to start from the rear of the field after his team makes repairs to the No. 48 Big Machine Chevrolet.

The pole win continues a big Saturday for Custer, the reigning Xfinity champion. He met with media members at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and announced that he will return to the Cup Series full-time in 2025. He will drive the No. 41 Ford Mustang for Haas Factory Team.

Custer will now continue his day by leading a packed 38-car field to the green flag. He will try to continue a strong season while pursuing his second consecutive win.

The green flag will wave to start the Xfinity Series race at 3:35 p.m. ET. The command to fire engines will be at 3:23 p.m. ET. USA Network will provide coverage for Saturday's race.
